Jeff Webb, cheerleading pioneer and mentor, dies at 65 after tragic fall
Jeff Webb, a key figure in modern cheerleading and a mentor to many, has died at the age of 65. His death followed a serious fall during a pickleball game, which left him with critical head injuries. Webb was later taken off life support on 19 March 2026, just months after the passing of his longtime friend and protégé, Charlie Kirk.
Webb's contributions spanned sports, activism, and leadership development, earning widespread recognition from organisations he helped shape.
Webb suffered a severe fall while playing pickleball, resulting in a head injury. Two weeks later, he remained in hospital on life support before his family made the decision to withdraw treatment. Falls pose greater risks for older adults, with those over 70 facing a 45% higher likelihood of serious injury.
His death came within months of Charlie Kirk's passing in 2025. Webb had met Kirk in his twenties and played a pivotal role in shaping his leadership at Turning Point USA. The organisation later described Webb as a 'visionary' and 'a dear friend,' releasing a video tribute to honour his legacy.
Beyond activism, Webb transformed cheerleading into a global sport. His work with the International Cheer Union led to its full recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 2021. Varsity Brands also acknowledged his influence, crediting him with modernising cheerleading and expanding its reach worldwide.
Webb's death leaves a lasting impact on both the cheerleading community and political activism. His mentorship at Turning Point USA and his efforts to professionalise cheerleading secured his reputation as an innovator. Tributes continue to highlight his role in shaping organisations and individuals alike.
