Offenbach District Youth Jazz Orchestra Unveils Debut CD and Seeks New Members

The Offenbach District Youth Jazz Orchestra, a collective of talented musicians aged between 14 and 24 from the Offenbach district, has recently released its first CD titled "The Start of Something New." The CD was recorded with workshop coach Axel Schlosser from the hr-big band.

Established with the goal of fostering a jazz ensemble composed of ambitious young talents, the orchestra serves as an important transition between regional school and music school big bands and selection orchestras at the state level, such as the Hessian state youth jazz orchestra.

The repertoire of the orchestra is diverse and impressive, featuring ambitious big band arrangements like "Count Bubba" by Gordon Goodwin, "Lingus" by Snarky Puppy, and funky-groovy numbers by artists like Sting, Tower of Power, or Jamiroquai.

Stefan Weilmünster, a saxophone player from Seligenstadt, university lecturer, and deputy head of the music school, directs the orchestra. Under his leadership, the orchestra has established good contacts to the jazz scene and conducts workshops led by renowned lecturers from nearby music universities or the hr-big band.

The orchestra's first workshop took place in April 2023, and since then, it has been continuously seeking new members for the instrument groups trombone, trumpet, saxophone, drums, guitar, piano, bass, and vocals. Interested musicians should have an advanced jazz level and ideally have experience in a big band.

The Offenbach District Youth Jazz Orchestra is set to perform at the Princely Garden Festival, taking place from 10:00 to 18:00, with the special theme being "Water in the Garden." The CD presentation of the Offenbach district youth jazz orchestra took place at an unspecified time.

A YouTube video of the workshop with Axel Schlosser is available at "YouTube - Jugend Jazzorchester Offenbach - Workshop mit Axel Schlosser." For more information about the orchestra and how to join, visit their official website or social media platforms.
