Avishai Cohen to Perform at Jewish Cultural Festival in Osnabrück

Israeli jazz musician Avishai Cohen is set to perform at the Jewish Cultural Festival in Osnabrück, Germany, on September 6. The four-day event, taking place from September 4 to 7, will feature various artists at different venues throughout the city.

Cohen, a renowned bassist and composer, will be performing with his band, The Hebrew Book. The band includes Itay Shimovich on piano, Eviatar Slivnik on drums, Yonathan Voltzok on trombone, Marc Kakon on guitar, and Yuval Drabkin on saxophone.

Cohen's latest album, Brightlight (2024), showcases original compositions and jazz standards. His music is known for creating extraordinary musical tension, a trait that has earned him recognition as an excellent musician and a virtuosic composer.

The multi-talented musician discovered jazz at the age of 14 and has since worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Bobby McFerrin. In 1998, Cohen released his first solo album, Adama, which marked his international breakthrough.

Bassplayer Magazine named Cohen one of the most influential instrumentalists of the 20th century, and he ranks among the most influential bassists of contemporary jazz.

In addition to music performances, the Jewish Cultural Festival will offer opportunities for interaction, such as film screenings and a street art workshop. Osnabrück Hall will host concerts during the festival, and the Felix Nussbaum House will host readings.

Cohen is currently committed to promoting young talents and has worked tirelessly to nurture the next generation of jazz musicians. His performance at the Jewish Cultural Festival in Osnbrück promises to be a highlight of the event.

For those planning to attend, mark your calendars for September 6 and get ready to experience the extraordinary musical journey that is Avishai Cohen and The Hebrew Book.
