Jaguar Land Rover issues initial statement following cyber attack disrupting retail and manufacturing operations: 'No evidence of data breach...'
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Faces Cyber Incident Amidst Global Surge in Attacks
In a recent development, British automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been hit by a cyber incident, joining a growing list of companies affected by such security concerns in recent months.
According to reports, the cyber attack at JLR has resulted in a significant disruption to their operations, including a delay in the launch of their electric Range Rover and Jaguar models. A spokesperson for JLR addressed the incident, stating that immediate action has been taken, and efforts are underway to restart global applications in a controlled manner.
Interestingly, the cyber incident at JLR is not confined to the automotive sector. There has been a broader surge in cyber attacks globally, with increasingly sophisticated threat actors disrupting operations and compromising sensitive data. In April, hackers attempted to break into the systems of the retailer Co-op Group.
British retailer M&S also experienced a similar incident, which led to a nearly four-month hiatus in their operations. However, M&S recently resumed taking click and collect orders for clothing following the resolution of the cyber hack and data theft.
JLR is owned by Tata Motors, but the Indian conglomerate did not immediately respond to queries about the cyber incident, according to a Reuters report. The name of the JLR spokesperson who made the press statement was not specified. A spokesperson from the British National Crime Agency also commented on the investigation.
It's worth noting that JLR has been under stress due to tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump. However, the recent trade deal has eased some pressure on JLR's auto exports to the American market.
At this stage, there is no evidence that customer data has been stolen from JLR. The company is working diligently to mitigate the impact of the cyber incident and restore normal operations as soon as possible.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, the threat of cyber attacks continues to loom large. Companies must remain vigilant and invest in robust cybersecurity measures to protect their operations and sensitive data from these persistent threats.
