Italian streamer fights Stake for €324K crypto roulette win after two-year freeze
An Italian streamer named Maurizio Lorio has spent over two years fighting to reclaim winnings from crypto gaming platform Stake. The disputed sum, worth around 3.9 BTC (approximately €324,000 as of November 2020), stems from a 2022 win on Double Ball Roulette. Lorio now threatens legal action if the deadlock continues. Lorio secured the win with a bet that carried odds of 249.41 and a multiplier of 1,301 times his stake. Shortly after, Stake froze his funds and restricted his account, citing an unusual betting pattern—a sudden surge in wager size. The company also suggested possible ties to a manipulation scheme involving a live dealer.
Stake’s co-founder, Ed Craven, claimed Lorio’s account may have been part of an effort to influence the roulette ball’s movement. Lorio has denied any wrongdoing and insists he has never received proof of the allegations. The case was later referred to CADRE, a dispute resolution body overseeing Curacao-licensed operators.
With no resolution in sight, Lorio now plans to escalate the matter. His next steps include approaching regulators and pursuing formal legal action against Stake. The prolonged dispute raises questions about Stake’s licensing and regulatory compliance. If unresolved, Lorio’s case could prompt further scrutiny of the platform’s operations. The outcome may also set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in crypto gaming.
