Krasnodar Region Embraces Tech Boom with Robust Support for IT Sector

The Krasnodar region, located in southern Russia, is making a strong push to become a hub for information technology (IT) innovation. A key player in this drive is the Kuban Cyber Security Conference (Kuban CSC), an annual gathering of top experts and opinion leaders in the field of information security.

The region boasts a robust IT ecosystem, with two cyber incident response centers safeguarding both state and private company resources. These centers play a crucial role in maintaining the security of the region's digital assets.

The Kuban region is also home to a well-established IT education system. The Association, a local organisation, operates an Academy that offers education from school level up to universities. Additionally, the Association runs classes for students and pensioners to improve computer literacy and enhance resistance to fraud.

The regional administration and Legislative Assembly are offering attractive incentives to attract IT companies to the region. Companies investing in the region can enjoy an investment tax credit of 70% of the tax on income. Furthermore, IT companies are offered a reduced simplified tax rate of 1% and those working on the "Income minus expenses" system see their rate reduced from 15% to 3%.

Financial support is also available for IT companies in the form of loans at 0.1% interest, up to five million rubles, for investments in the region.

The regional "Startup as a Diploma" program offers solid projects to graduates, providing a platform for new ideas to flourish. To retain young talent, a 50% compensation of the tax on the income of physical persons is available for young employees who choose to stay in the region.

The Krasnodar region is investing in digital infrastructure, technology startups, government-backed innovation programs, and targeted training initiatives to enhance IT skills. Two powerful educational institutions for training IT personnel, the S.M. Shteemenko Higher Military School and the Kuban State Technological University, are located in the region.

While specific details from recent publicly available sources are limited, it is clear that the Krasnodar region is making a significant effort to foster the growth of its IT sector. With its supportive environment and attractive incentives, the region is well-positioned to become a major player in the tech industry.
