Islamic court in Islamabad grants suspect released on bail in Samiya Hijab's kidnapping case
In a shocking turn of events, social media influencer Samiya Hijab has appealed for protection from Islamabad Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, praising the police for their swift action in registering her complaint.
Samiya Hijab has accused Hassan Zahid, a resident of Lahore, of harassing her for months with threats and demands to marry him. In a video posted on Instagram, she detailed how Zahid allegedly attempted to abduct her outside her house, prompting swift action by the capital city police that resulted in his arrest within 24 hours.
Zahid is now nominated in two cases on charges of harassment, assault, abduction, and threats to life over Samiya's complaint. He remains in five-day physical remand in another case registered at Shalimar Police Station.
The police are seeking to recover the weapon used by Zahid, two cars used for the crime, a mobile phone, and Rs45,000 cash, which he allegedly stole from Samiya. Shalimar police officials considered the act as intolerable, as someone attempted to force an individual and attempt abduction.
Samiya confirmed that she had undergone a medical examination that verified evidence of physical assault. Officers have been deployed outside Samiya's house for security after she reported fresh death threats from Hassan Zahid.
In a tragic turn, Samiya invoked the recent murder of teenage TikToker Sana, stating that she does not want to become Sana due to rejecting a proposal leading to her death. She urged the authorities to ensure her safety and bring the perpetrator to justice.
In a surprising turn of events, Zahid was granted bail by a district and sessions court in Islamabad in one of the cases against him for harassing and attempting to kidnap Samiya. The bail was granted against surety bonds worth Rs20,000 by Additional District and Sessions Judge Aamir Zia. However, Zahid remains in five-day physical remand in another case.
The court has fixed September 9 for arguments on Zahid's pre-arrest bail plea. Samiya and her supporters are hoping for a swift and just resolution to this harrowing ordeal.
