IO's transportation department joins forces with Free to install Kinetic Mobility's Advanced Traffic Management System nationwide.
In a significant move towards enhancing road safety and efficiency, the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) has awarded a multi-year agreement to Q-Free to update its statewide Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) with Q-Free's Kinetic Mobility.
The Iowa DOT, a leading agency in delivering top-tier service to residents and visitors alike, manages more than 9,600 miles of state and U.S. roads. With over 600 third-party users, including maintenance garages, 911/law enforcement centers, and neighbouring states, sharing crucial road information, the need for a robust and flexible traffic management system is paramount.
Q-Free, a company consistently leading in developing strategies and deploying technology to keep roadways safe and efficient, has been chosen for this task. Prospective customers often experience a 'light bulb' moment when they see Kinetic Mobility in action, recognising its flexibility in meeting unique needs.
Kinetic Mobility is a modular platform that allows agencies to select only the capabilities they need, eliminating unnecessary costs while maximising value. This approach aligns perfectly with the Iowa DOT's focus on delivering efficient and cost-effective services.
The new contract includes an 18-month set-up and deployment phase followed by a minimum two-year maintenance agreement. The Iowa DOT will deploy multiple Kinetic Mobility modules, including Events, Signs, Travel Time, Weather, Corridors, and Video.
Christopher Butler, PMP, Q-Free Senior Project Manager for Iowa, believes the breadth, modularity, and security of Kinetic Mobility set Q-Free apart during the selection process. Q-Free has worked closely with the Iowa DOT for years, including on the first cloud-hosted ATMS in the nation.
This is not the first time Kinetic Mobility has been deployed on a statewide project. It has previously been successfully rolled out in West Virginia earlier this year. Q-Free's Kinetic Mobility is a modern, future-ready approach to ATMS technology.
The products and services mentioned in this article fall under Traffic Management and Transport & Mobility Software. This article was originally published by Q-Free. Iowa responded very strongly to seeing the platform's functionality and ease of use in real time.
In conclusion, the partnership between Q-Free and the Iowa DOT is set to revolutionise the way traffic is managed in the state, ensuring safer and more efficient roadways for all.
