The Samsung Galaxy S25, equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, is set to redefine mobile gaming. With its Qualcomm Adreno GPU that boasts a 30% improvement over the previous generation, the Snapdragon 8 Elite promises smoother and more realistic gaming experiences.

This chipset also includes the Vulkan Engine and improved Ray Tracing, making smartphones a potential competitor against handheld gaming PCs. However, it's important to note that the mobile gaming architecture (ARM) is different from that of handheld gaming PCs and laptops, which can cause compatibility issues.

Currently, many GPU-heavy AAA titles rely on emulation, leading to variable performance and DRM/anti-cheat limitations. As a result, only a limited number of games run natively, and some high-demand titles may remain cloud-only until middleware updates enable support.

Samsung may push for ARM compatibility with developers to enable AAA gaming on mobile devices, but full native ARM AAA PC game support via direct installation remains rare without developer ARM builds.

Interestingly, the author expresses interest in a phone with native Xbox Game Pass, but unfortunately, the Windows app for Xbox Game Pass is not compatible with ARM. The potential of seeing Xbox Game Pass running natively on a Galaxy device is a possibility, but it remains to be seen how this will be achieved.

It's worth mentioning that cheat engines in modern PC games aren't compatible with ARM, which can cause trouble in multiplayer games. However, this year has seen major improvements in the industry with technology like DLSS 4.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, if it is the same as in laptops like the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, will be decently powerful for a smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S25 phones offer impressive gaming performance, but changes to the games we can play may not be drastic until ARM improves in the industry.

Stay tuned for ongoing coverage of the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, where we may see more developments in the world of mobile gaming.
