The much-anticipated Volkswagen Eos sunny convertible and the ID.Evo full-size SUV, a product of Volkswagen and Xpeng's partnership, are set to make their Chinese debuts.
The Eos, currently being tested in China, will be showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, marking its Chinese debut. Volkswagen applied for a Chinese patent for the Eos earlier this year, indicating the car's imminent arrival in the market. The Eos is scheduled to debut in China before the summer, and it will be listed as an import in the country.
Volkswagen's strategic move to debut the Eos at the Shanghai Auto Show aims to maximize visibility and impact at the event before any commercial release in China.
Meanwhile, the ID.Evo full-size SUV, featuring Xpeng technology, is being assembled at a Chinese plant. However, it's worth noting that this plant incurs losses during the assembly process. The ID.Evo full-size SUV is a product of Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture and is being developed specifically for the Chinese market.
In a significant expansion of their partnership, Volkswagen Group and Xpeng have extended their strategic E/E architecture partnership to include gasoline and plug-in hybrid platforms.
Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture also plans to launch two New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) by 2027, exclusively developed for the Chinese market. This move underscores Volkswagen's commitment to the Chinese market and its ambition to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region.
The ID.Evo full-size SUV is not the only vehicle being assembled in China. The pre-production Volkswagen ID.Evo full-size SUV, featuring Xpeng technology, is being assembled at a loss-bearing Chinese plant.
The Eos and the ID.Evo full-size SUV are set to make a significant impact in the Chinese market, further solidifying Volkswagen's position as a key player in the region's automotive industry. Stay tuned for more updates from the Shanghai Auto Show in April.
