New Electric City Car Hits Chinese Market: The Bestune Xiaoma

The FAW Group is set to introduce a new competitor in the city car market with the arrival of the Bestune Xiaoma. This compact, two-door vehicle is poised to make its debut in the Chinese market this year, promising to offer an attractive alternative to established models like the Chery QQ Ice Cream, Changan Lumin, and SAIC Roewe Clever.

The Bestune Xiaoma boasts a sleek exterior design, typical of an electric city car. It features boxy proportions, short overhangs, and rectangular headlights and taillights. The vehicle is 83-mm longer, 17 mm wider, and 9 mm higher than the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, providing a slightly roomier interior.

Under the hood, the Bestune Xiaoma is powered by a 27-hp (20 kW) electric motor from Shuanglin company, the same e-motor that propels the entry-level Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. The vehicle's dimensions are 3000/1510/1630 mm, with a wheelbase of 1953 mm, offering a decent approach angle of 29 degrees and a departure angle of 43 degrees.

The interior of the Bestune Xiaoma, as showcased in the convertible concept car, offers an LCD instrument panel, a two-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, and leatherette seats. However, the interior of the production version of the Bestune Xiaoma has not been revealed by the Chinese Government.

The Bestune Xiaoma comes equipped with a front camera, built-in video recorder, and rear view camera, ensuring safety and convenience for its passengers. It also offers four seats and a front and rear track of 1290 mm each.

One of the key aspects of the Bestune Xiaoma remains a mystery, though: the capacity of its battery. Reports suggest that it uses an LFP pack from REPT, a supplier for SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Geely, and other companies, but the exact capacity is yet to be disclosed.

The charging port of the Bestune Xiaoma is located at the front end and is covered with a Bestune logo. The vehicle can be equipped with wheel covers and an exterior styling package for added personalisation.

The sales performance of the Bestune Xiaoma is uncertain due to the strong competition in the city car market. Despite this, the FAW Group is planning a 10% stake acquisition in Stellantis-backed Leapmotor, suggesting a commitment to the electric vehicle sector.

In conclusion, the Bestune Xiaoma presents an intriguing new option in the city car market. With its sleek design, powerful motor, and promising features, it is set to make waves in the Chinese market. However, its sales success remains to be seen amidst strong competition.
