The automotive industry in China is abuzz with the upcoming debut of the new Besturn B30 sedan, produced by a joint venture that also manufactures the Volkswagen Jetta. The B30 will make its grand entrance at the Shanghai Auto Show next month, boasting a starting price of approximately 70,000 yuan.
Interestingly, the new Besturn B30 will share its engine with the Volkswagen Jetta. Specifically, it will utilise the Jetta's 1.6 litre engine, which in the B30 will produce 74kw of power and 154nm of torque. This engine choice is not surprising, given that the B30 is based on the Volkswagen Jetta PQ32 platform.
Meanwhile, China's state-owned automotive giant, FAW Group, is also making headlines. The company has reported a breakthrough in hydrogen fuel cell vehicle development, although details about the new technology are yet to be disclosed.
In a separate development, FAW Group plans a 10% stake acquisition in Stellantis-backed Leapmotor. However, the current owner of the 10% share in Leapmotor, which is supported by Stellantis, remains unspecified.
Elsewhere in the industry, Toyota's bZ5 coupe SUV, produced with BYD batteries, has started deliveries in China. This move further highlights the growing importance of electric vehicles in the Chinese market.
As the Shanghai Auto Show approaches, the spotlight is on the new Besturn B30 sedan. With its affordable price and shared engine technology with the Volkswagen Jetta, it's poised to make a significant impact in the Chinese automotive landscape.
