Intoxicated Motorists Behind the Wheel
In a series of incidents over the past few days, the police in the Rhein-Erft Circle have taken action against drunk drivers in the region.
On Monday afternoon, a 71-year-old driver of a Nissan in Hürth-Efferen was stopped by police for suspected alcohol intoxication. A blood test was ordered for the driver, taken at a police station, and their driver's license was confiscated. The breathalyzer test showed a reading of just under 1.00 mg/L.
Around the same time, a 35-year-old driver in Bergheim was stopped by police for driving erratically and into oncoming traffic. The breathalyzer test for this driver showed a reading of approximately 2.70 mg/L. It was also discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license.
In another incident, a 55-year-old driver in Kerpen-Sindorf was stopped by police around 1:40 AM on Tuesday for driving erratically and on the wrong side of the road. The driver showed signs of impaired balance, delayed pupil reaction, slurred speech, and a strong alcohol odor. A blood test was ordered for the driver, taken by a doctor at a police station, but the driver was unable to perform a breathalyzer test. The traffic commission has initiated investigations into the incident.
In all three cases, police officers prohibited the drivers from continuing their journey and filed a report. The identity of the police officer who arrested the 55-year-old Porsche driver in Kerpen-Sindorf on Tuesday evening has not been publicly disclosed.
Another driver was stopped by police in Kerpen, but no details about the suspected offense or test results were provided.
