Intoxicated adults account for over 70% of the drowning incidents in the area
In the regional Public Chamber of Zabaykalsky Krai, a roundtable discussion on water tragedies in the region was held in 2025. The focus of the discussion was on the alarming number of water-related deaths in the region and the factors contributing to these tragedies.
Andrei Bolotov, a representative of the Ministry of Health in Zabaykalsky Krai, presented data that shed light on the situation. According to the data, 72% of adults who died in water accidents in the region were intoxicated. This startling statistic was a key point of discussion during the meeting.
The data also revealed that the main group of victims in these water accidents consisted of men, with most victims falling within the age range of 31 to 50 years old. This demographic information provided additional details about the victims and highlighted the need for targeted measures to address this issue.
The speaker emphasised that a significant number of the victims were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accidents. This revelation underscored the importance of promoting responsible drinking and increasing public awareness about the risks associated with alcohol consumption near bodies of water.
The roundtable discussion is still ongoing, with the speaker providing new information about the victims and the factors contributing to these water tragedies. The hope is that this discussion will lead to concrete actions and policies to reduce the number of water-related deaths in Zabaykalsky Krai.
