International Voyage of Sumud Flotilla Sets Sail from Barcelona with Over 20 Ships and 300 Passengers Headed for Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission to open a corridor for aid to reach Palestine, is set to depart from Barcelona this Sunday. The flotilla, consisting of over 20 boats and 300 people, will be a diverse group of activists, politicians, trade unionists, and ordinary citizens from 44 countries. Notable participants include Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau, German activist Yasemin Acar, and lawyer Melanie Schweizer from the DiEM25 party.

The flotilla's objective, as stated by one of its coordinators, Saif Abukeshek, is to challenge the Israeli blockade of Gaza. Abukeshek, born in Cisjordania, expressed concern that Israel will continue to act aggressively without consequences if it is not met with a response. He also accused the Israeli government of prohibiting the entry of humanitarian aid that is just a few kilometers from the border.

Preparations for the flotilla have been ongoing since Friday, with concerts, workshops, and talks held at Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona. The first boats are expected to enter Moll de la Fusta this Saturday morning, and loading of humanitarian aid will begin in the afternoon. Over 500 people are arriving in Barcelona to prepare for the departure.

Buses from all the provinces of the State will also arrive, carrying activists and supporters of the cause. Among those participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla are Greta Thunberg, Ada Colau, Jordi Coronas, Pilar Castillejo, and Lucía Muñoz.

The flotilla is scheduled to arrive in Tunisia by September 4, marking the end of its journey. Saif Abukeshek emphasized that the struggle of the Palestinian people is today the axis against repression, and called on politicians to act against the Israeli government.

In a separate development, the PP accused the Government of concealing defense spending and demanded that Robles explain in Congress. No direct link to the Global Sumud Flotilla was found in this matter.

The Kings and the Extremadura president visited the areas affected by fires in the Jerte and Ambroz valleys, but no information about bank deposits, defense spending, or fires was directly related to the flotilla in the provided paragraphs.

Abukeshek's call for action and the departure of the Global Sumud Flotilla from Barcelona marks a significant moment in the ongoing struggle for humanitarian aid to reach Palestine. The flotilla's journey serves as a symbol of hope and solidarity, bringing together people from all over the world in support of a just cause.
