International Powers Encourage Moderation: European Union, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom Call for Restraint
In a recent meeting in Geneva, foreign affairs ministers from France, Germany, Britain, the European Union, and the EU's foreign policy chief held discussions with their Iranian counterparts. The urgent matter at hand was the Iranian nuclear program and related issues.
The E3 ministers—Germany, France, and the United Kingdom—along with Iran's foreign minister, are set to meet again in a bid to seek a diplomatic solution regarding Iran's nuclear program. The discussions revolved around avenues towards a negotiated solution to Iran's nuclear program.
The urgency of the matter was emphasized, as all parties urged an immediate finding of a negotiated solution to prevent Iran from obtaining or acquiring a nuclear weapon. They welcomed ongoing US efforts to seek a negotiated solution.
The group shared their concerns about the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and expressed their view that all sides should refrain from taking steps which lead to further escalation in the region. They encouraged Iran to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in line with its legally binding commitments.
The politicians also reiterated their longstanding concerns about Iran's expansion of its nuclear program, which they believe has no credible civilian purpose and violates almost all the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) provisions.
The group expressed their full support for the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and referred to the IAEA's last report on the implementation of safeguards obligations in Iran. They also expressed their willingness to continue discussing all questions relevant to Iran's nuclear program.
In addition, the group reiterated their firm commitment to Israel's security. They emphasized that any resolution must ensure the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program and address international concerns about its nuclear ambitions.
The politicians expressed their willingness to meet again in the future to continue these important discussions. The hope is that through diplomatic efforts, a peaceful and lasting solution can be found to ensure the security and stability of the Middle East.
