International Postal Services Halt Package Deliveries to the US Due to Elimination of De Minimis Threshold

Starting next Friday, the tariffs on all shipments of goods valued at $100 or less to the US and Puerto Rico will be implemented. Known as de minimis, these tariffs affect international postal services worldwide, including Correos, German Deutsche Post DHL, French La Poste, Poste Italiane, Belgian Bpost, Scandinavian PostNord, Dutch PostNL, and others.

In response to these tariffs, Correos has announced a temporary suspension of shipments to the US and Puerto Rico until an appropriate solution is developed to comply with the new regulations. Similarly, China's postal service has suspended parcel deliveries to the USA and Puerto Rico for shipments valued between 100 USD and 800 USD.

The suspensions are not permanent, as announced by countries like India and New Zealand. These suspensions only apply to goods valued at $100 or less, while letters, documents without commercial value, books, and personal gifts valued at $100 or less will continue to be accepted without tariffs.

The tariff rate will vary depending on the country of origin and the value of the product. The exemption from tariffs on these shipments has expired, leading to these temporary suspensions.

Correos has stated that the suspension is due to the short time to adapt to the new requirements and the need to protect customers' interests. Other postal services, such as Deutsche Post DHL, La Poste, Poste Italiane, Bpost, PostNord, and Dutch PostNL, have also announced suspensions of low-value package deliveries to the US.

It is important to note that these suspensions do not affect shipments valued over $100 but not exceeding $800. The suspensions apply only to packages sent to the US and Puerto Rico.

This development is a significant change for international trade and postal services, and it is expected that more information will be shared in the coming days as postal services adapt to these new regulations.
