In the upcoming game against Northern Ireland in Cologne, the identity of Germany's right-back is shrouded in uncertainty. With Antonio Rüdiger expected to start, his partner on the right remains a question mark.

Nicklas Leweling is anticipated to fill the role as the right wing-back in the defence, but coach Julian Nagelsmann has other options in mind. One such option is Joshua Kimmich, who has been a regular starter for Germany since his international debut over nine years ago.

Kimmich, who initially found success as a right-back under coach Joachim Löw during the Euro in France, was recently moved back into midfield. However, Nagelsmann has mentioned that playing Kimmich on the right side is always an option, especially in an emergency situation.

Rüdiger, who played his 80th international match, was not in good form during the game against Slovakia and seemed lost on the pitch. This has raised questions about his ability to reach the milestone of 100 international appearances.

Maximilian Mittelstädt, a left-footed player, was moved to the right side after halftime against Slovakia due to a lack of options. Despite his efforts, Mittelstädt could not prevent Germany from losing the game 1:3, leading to poor debut ratings for him.

Meanwhile, Nnamdi Collins, who made his international debut in the same game, received support from his teammates after his disappointing performance. Kimmich, in particular, defended Collins, stating that he should not be blamed for his performance, especially as he is new to the team.

However, Nagelsmann expressed concern about Collins' performance, but did not blame him outright. The coach criticized the lack of support for Collins from other experienced players in the defence, specifically mentioning vice-captain and defensive leader Antonio Rüdiger.

Collins left the stadium in Bratislava feeling frustrated after losing the U21 European Championship final against England. Despite his recent struggles, it remains unclear whether Collins will start against Northern Ireland right away.

As the team prepares for the game against Northern Ireland, the right-back position remains a topic of discussion. With several options available, Nagelsmann will have to make a decision that will impact the outcome of the game.
