Erzgebirge Aue Seeks New Left-Back Amidst Injury Woes and Mediocre Start to Season

Football club Erzgebirge Aue is actively searching for a new left-back, with Moritz Seiffert's injury likely to keep him out for several months. This comes as the team has had a challenging start to the new season, managing only four points from their first four games.

The club's managing director, Matthias Heidrich, is in talks with several contract-free left-backs who could potentially join the squad. However, the market for unattached players is limited, and Heidrich is working diligently to present a new signing as soon as possible.

Coach Jens Härtel has been testing potential left-back options, with Anthony Barylla and Paul Seidel among those tried out. Härtel prefers a natural left-footed player for the position, but, due to limited options, he is focusing on the current team for the time being.

The coach used a test match against 1. FC Magdeburg to trial two options for the left-back position. One notable return during this match was that of Ricky Bornschein, who made his comeback after over four months off due to a tumor operation.

The search for a left-back has taken on a new urgency due to Seiffert's injury. Some potential candidates include Bryan Hein (formerly of Jahn Regensburg), Niko Gießelmann, Kerim Calhanoglu (both formerly of Greuther Fürth), Lennart Czyborra (CFC Genoa 1893), Lukas Scherff (formerly of Hansa Rostock), Jonas Weik (formerly of SV Sandhausen), and Nico Rieble (formerly of SV Wehen Wiesbaden).

After the international break, Erzgebirge Aue will play against SG Traucha in the state cup. This match will be followed by two away games against Energie Cottbus and VfL Osnabrück. After the state cup match, Erzgebirge Aue will play at home against Viktoria Cologne to avoid increasing unrest.

The 1:4 defeat against 1. FC Saarbrücken before the current international break was concerning for Erzgebirge Aue. The pressure has been present on coach Härtel since the start of the season, and the team will be eager to turn their fortunes around.
