The Joint Doctoral Program in Geophysics, a collaboration between the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU), offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into the fields of earthquake science and applied geophysics. This programme is directed by Dr. Mark J. Simons and Dr. James E. Konter.

For international applicants whose native language is not English, English proficiency exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, and Pearson Test are required. Scores from these exams should be sent to Institution Code 4836 (UC San Diego).

Once admitted and upon accepting the offer of admission, international students will be required to submit a WES or TEC course-by-course evaluation. More information about the English proficiency exams, the application process, and other requirements can be found on the respective websites of the Graduate Division and SDSU.

It's important to note that UC San Diego's application does not charge an application fee. However, applicants will pay a single application fee, with the fee being paid to San Diego State University.

The application for the joint doctoral program will open on October 1, and the deadline is December 1. Applicants must apply to both SDSU and UCSD by this date. The programme is offered by a joint graduate group from the Geophysics Program at UCSD and the Department of Geological Sciences at SDSU.
