Insights into the GeoGuessr World Championships 2025: What You Should Be Aware Of
The world's top GeoGuessr players are set to convene in Copenhagen for the highly anticipated 2025 GeoGuessr World Championships. This annual event, now in its third year, has garnered significant attention, with tens of millions of players worldwide and billions of views on TikTok.
Created by Swedish developer Anton Wallén in 2013, GeoGuessr is an online geography game built on Google Street View. Players are dropped into a random 360° panorama anywhere in the world and must use visual clues such as architecture, vegetation, road markings, number plates, and the angle of the sun to pinpoint their location on a world map.

Each match in the championship will consist of ten rounds, with players racing against a 60-second clock in each round. Every misstep in the game translates into "damage" against the opponent's health bar. The first official GeoGuessr World Cup was staged in 2023, and the Grand Final drew nearly 300,000 live viewers online in 2024.
Influencers such as Trevor Rainbolt have built huge audiences from their other-worldly abilities to pinpoint the exact location in seconds. GeoGuessr has added modes beyond the classic five-round score chase, such as head-to-head Duels and last-person-standing Battle Royale-style showdowns.
The 2025 GeoGuessr World Championships commenced with the round of 16 competition on Friday. The championship will culminate in the Grand Final match, which is being held at 10PM (CET) on Saturday 30 August. The prize pool for this year's championship is a staggering $100,000.
