Inside the CUPRA Formentor VZ: A DTM Safety Car Thrill Ride
Marvin N'Doye, a DTM Insider competition winner, recently got behind the wheel of the CUPRA Formentor VZ safety car. His experience offered a rare look at the high-speed world of DTM support vehicles. The car, a key part of the 2024 season, was deployed at tracks like Hockenheim, Norisring, and Zandvoort.
The CUPRA Formentor VZ served as the official safety car for this year's DTM races. Powered by a 450 PS engine tuned to 530 Newton metres of torque by ABT Sportsline, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. This performance allows it to pull ahead of the entire field almost instantly when needed.
Marvin's day included a lap with Daniel Abt, a CUPRA brand ambassador and experienced racer. He noted the car's stability and sharp handling, even at high speeds. Beyond the safety car, he also rode in the medical vehicle, seeing firsthand how quickly support teams respond to incidents. The event highlighted CUPRA's role as an official DTM partner. The brand uses the series to display its focus on speed, innovation, and performance. All support vehicles, from race control to medical cars, were Formentor VZ models, reinforcing their reliability under pressure.
Marvin's time in the safety car gave him a deeper appreciation for the precision of DTM operations. The Formentor VZ's power and agility ensure races run smoothly and safely. CUPRA's involvement continues to emphasise its commitment to high-performance motorsport.
