New Luxury SUV from BYD: The Yangwang U8L
Next week, BYD is set to launch the luxury SUV, the Yangwang U8L, and it's creating quite a buzz. Here's what we know so far.
The Yangwang U8L boasts a 2.4-liter Mitsubishi 4-cylinder petrol engine, generating 118kw at 5800rpm and 215nm at 3500-4500rpm. Weighing in at 3.6 tons, this SUV is a heavyweight contender in the luxury market.
As for the price, the Yangwang U8L retails at 180k USD. However, the base model cost has not been officially disclosed. Rumours suggest it might not exceed 350,000 rmb.
The design of the SUV is a mix of old and new. The front of the vehicle is said to be more creative, showcasing a modern take on BYD's iconic sharp front-end with an 'X-shaped' face, inspired by the BYD Seal sedan's design language. On the other hand, the rear design seems to draw inspiration from the 2004 model, setting it apart from the current RX interior.
BYD has also announced that a more modern 2.0-liter engine will be available as an option. Unfortunately, no information about the engines or engine specifications for the Yangwang U8L has been provided.
The launch of the Yangwang U8L is not just a domestic event. BYD aims to sell around 1 million cars overseas by the end of 2025, and the new SUV is expected to play a significant role in achieving this goal.
The new SUV will make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. While local dealers may offer Lexus badges for sale separately, it's unclear if the Yangwang U8L will be marketed under the Lexus brand.
BYD has also boosted its capital by 200% to 1.28B USD, indicating a strong commitment to its automotive ventures. With the launch of the Yangwang U8L, BYD is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury SUV market.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the launch next week.
