In a series of disturbing incidents over the weekend of May 30 to June 1, unknown persons allegedly broke into houses in the towns of Hürth, Frechen, Bergheim, and Pulheim. The most recent incident occurred in Hürth early Sunday morning around 3:30 AM, where thieves stole a Mercedes car with its keys from an apartment on "Hürther Bogen" street. A witness reported seeing three darkly dressed suspects near the targeted object around midnight, last seen heading towards Eschweilerstraße. The exact number of houses burglarized in each town has not been specified, and the Rhein-Erft County Police have not yet provided any information about any arrests or recoveries related to these incidents.
In Bergheim, it is currently under investigation whether anything was stolen during the burglary that reportedly involved smashing a window. Similarly, in Frechen, burglars broke into a house on Johann-Simon-Straße around 7:45 PM, but the unknown person(s) fled the house when the residents made their presence known.
In a separate incident in Brauweiler, suspects allegedly forced their way into a house on Abt-Aemilius Straße through the garden on Friday around 11:15 AM. When residents were noticed in the house, the suspects fled the scene. Unknown persons also allegedly broke into a house on Römerstraße in Bergheim between Friday 1:00 PM and Saturday 11:45 AM.
Police officers have filed criminal charges, documented, and secured evidence at the crime scenes in Bergheim and Brauweiler. The Rhein-Erft County Police have not revealed any details about the condition of the stolen Mercedes car or if it has been located.
