Inquiries Sparked by Series of Blazes - EU-POL

In the quiet town of Zülpich, two separate incidents of fire have occurred, causing minor damage to properties and sparking an investigation by local authorities.

The first incident took place at 23:53 on Käsmarkt, where the fire department successfully extinguished a trash can blaze. The second fire broke out at 02:20 in the Markt area, resulting in several trash cans being on fire and causing minor damage to a nearby residential and commercial building.

Following these incidents, a case of suspected arson has been opened by the local police district in Zülpich. To ensure public safety, additional patrol officers will be present in increased numbers. The Criminal Police of Euskirchen is actively investigating a 35-year-old suspect from Zülpich in connection with the increasing number of fires.

The Criminal Police is coordinating with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bonn and has also involved the social psychiatric service of the Euskirchen district in their investigation.

Thankfully, no one was injured in either of the fires. The fires in recent weeks have resulted in property damage, but the community is urged not to panic.
