The city of Gaza is currently the centre of a tense situation, as preparatory operations by the Israeli military are underway. The Israeli military has classified Gaza as a "dangerous combat zone," and has initiated an offensive to take over the city, located in the north of the Gaza Strip.

This offensive comes amidst growing concerns from aid organizations about the escalation of fighting in the area. The World Food Programme (WFP) has called for a massive increase in humanitarian aid for Gaza, as half a million people in the blockaded and extensively destroyed coastal region are reported to be hungry.

Cindy McCain, the WFP director, stated that Gaza is at a breaking point. Among the concerns are the hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip, including some who hold both Israeli and German citizenship. Israeli forces have retrieved the remains of two hostages in the Gaza Strip, one of whom is Ilan Weiss, an Israeli citizen who was killed on October 7, 2023, during the Hamas massacre. The identity of the second recovered host remains unidentified.

The Israeli leadership plans to resettle the estimated one million residents of Gaza in the south. Arrangements have been made for the establishment of humanitarian aid centers and the delivery of tents for the resettlement of Gaza residents. However, a tactical ceasefire for humanitarian aid deliveries in Gaza no longer applies in the city of Gaza.

The Israeli military is advancing "with great intensity" in the outskirts of the city of Gaza. At least 48 Palestinians, including 20 in the north of the Gaza Strip, have been reported killed by Israeli military attacks. These figures of casualties could not be independently verified.

Among the hostages still held by extremists in the Gaza Strip are seven German citizens, including Alon, a 24-year-old pianist who has been detained since November 2023 in harsh conditions 40 meters underground in a tunnel.

This ongoing crisis in Gaza continues to raise serious humanitarian concerns, and the international community is urged to take action to alleviate the suffering of the people in the region.
