Individual succumbs amidst suspected overdose from drug and alcohol consumption
In the early hours of August 10th, a tragic incident unfolded in the Nippes district of Cologne. A 52-year-old man, who was reportedly in a state of mental distress and had consumed alcohol and sedatives, was found on Neusser Straße/Steinberger Straße, shouting for help and requesting police assistance.
Passersby, concerned for the man's wellbeing, called the emergency services around 04:00 AM. Officers arrived at the scene and, upon finding the man, requested an ambulance. However, during the intervention, the man allegedly kicked and punched the officers.
Despite the altercation, the officers managed to restrain the man with the intention of transporting him to the ambulance. However, the man's condition deteriorated during this process, and he was taken to a hospital. Tragically, the man later died at the hospital.
The Police Bonn has taken over the investigations, with the Cologne Fire Department initially handling the incident. The results of the chemical-toxicological examination and the autopsy conducted on Sunday are still pending.
