Individual meets unfortunate demise following collision of illegally obtained taxi with a building in Brooklyn, according to NYPD statement.

In a tragic incident that occurred early on Monday morning, a man lost his life after stealing a for-hire vehicle and crashing it into a building in Flatlands, Brooklyn.

The incident unfolded around 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Avenue J and Flatbush Avenue. According to reports, the man stole the car from Regent Place and Flatbush Avenue before losing control and crashing into a building.

Video footage obtained by authorities shows the car speeding onto the sidewalk, ricocheting off a building, and splitting into pieces. Debris from the vehicle and building was left scattered on the sidewalk after the crash.

Emergency medical workers rushed to the scene and transported the man to Kings County Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police.

Officials from the city's buildings department visited the building following the crash and deemed it safe.

The original driver of the car had stepped out and left it running, police said. The man's identity has not been released yet as authorities are working to notify his family.
