A security guard found himself in a precarious situation on Sunday night in Bang Chalong, Samut Prakan, when he became trapped in floodwater on Sriwareenoi Road.
The incident occurred around 9pm, as heavy rain caused the road to flood, making the pavement difficult to see. The victim, a 25-year-old security guard, was on his way to buy food from a convenience store after finishing his night shift with a friend.
Unfortunately, as they walked, the guard stepped on a broken drain cover, causing his leg to fall through the gap. The guard was immediately trapped in the floodwater, with his left leg caught in the drain cover.
His friend quickly called for help, and the Phra Nakhon radio centre received the call, coordinating with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue workers. The leader of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation involved in the rescue was Lieutenant Colonel Thongchai Prasong.
The rescue operation was challenging, as the guard was trapped in floodwater. The rescuers found the guard sitting on the curbside, with his trapped leg submerged in the water. They used a hydraulic jack to free the guard's leg, finally managing to free him from the drain cover.
After the rescue, the guard was taken to Bang Phli Hospital for first aid. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise during heavy rain, especially in flooded areas. It's essential to exercise caution and be aware of potential hazards when walking or driving on flooded roads.
