Breaking News: Man Carrying Axe Arrested at Cologne Central Station
A police operation was carried out at Cologne Central Station on Wednesday, as a result of a tip-off that a man on an ICE train, en route to Cologne, might be carrying an axe.
The man, a 35-year-old German national, was apprehended on the platform by officers who had equipped themselves with heavy gear and sealed off platform 4/5 where the train was expected to arrive.
According to reports, the man attempted to disembark unnoticed but was apprehended by the authorities. The axe was found under a seat in the ICE train.
However, witnesses on the train reported that there was no threat from the man - he did not use the axe. The man stated that he was suffering from a mental illness and had suicidal thoughts.
The Federal Police responded immediately due to the potential danger, as they had received tips about the man carrying an axe. The operation involved officers apprehending the 35-year-old man on the platform.
Following the incident, the 35-year-old man was taken to a psychiatric clinic. An administrative offence procedure will be initiated against him, according to the Federal Police, but the nature of the offence has not been revealed.
It is important to note that no threat was reported from the man in the train, where the axe was found under a seat. The man, who was apprehended at Cologne Central Station, is currently receiving medical treatment and support.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and quick action by the authorities in such situations. The public is advised to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities in such events.
