Individual apprehended for alleged attempt on life

In a series of developments, the suspected perpetrator of an attempted homicide in Reinbek, Germany, has been ordered to be held in a psychiatric hospital following an appeal by the Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck.

The incident, involving an Afghan national attacking a 12-year-old Afghan child at Reinbek station in Sophienstraße, occurred on 16th May 2025. The Lübeck District Court initially rejected the issuance of a detention order for the suspect. However, a senate of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court ordered the provisional detention of the suspect in a psychiatric hospital on 23rd June 2025, under § 126a StPO.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested by the Federal Police in Brandenburg on 12th August 2025. He was admitted to a specialized clinic following the incident, but was released the following day by the clinic. The suspect is currently being held in the Brandenburg specialized clinic, awaiting transfer to Schleswig-Holstein for the proceedings of the suspected attempted homicide.

The Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck is represented by Christian Braunwarth, while the Police Directorate Ratzeburg is represented by Jacqueline Fischer. Further inquiries should be directed to the press offices of these institutions.

The victim of the attack was a 12-year-old Afghan child. The act was considered an attempted homicide by the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court. The whereabouts of the suspect after his release are currently unknown.
