Starlink connects with DE-CIX India, marking the satellite internet service as the first to join Indian internet exchange points.

In a groundbreaking move, DE-CIX India, the world's first internet exchange platform to provide interconnection for Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, has integrated Starlink into its Interconnection-Platform. This partnership marks a significant step towards addressing the digital divide and ensuring long-term success.

Starlink, a satellite internet service provider, has officially joined DE-CIX India's interconnection ecosystem. With this integration, Starlink is now functioning as a full-fledged Internet service provider within India's digital ecosystem. The Department of Telecommunications in India has secured a commercial license for Starlink, with final clearance for its operations expected by late 2025 or early 2026.

DE-CIX's interconnection solutions enable satellite operators like Starlink to access content, clouds, and application providers seamlessly. This integration is not intended to place Starlink in competition with terrestrial or mobile networks, but rather as a complementary force. Throughput speeds for Starlink range from 25 to 220 Mbps, making it suitable for remote, underserved areas like mountains, rural, and island geographies.

Monthly costs for Starlink's service in India range from ₹3,000-₹4,200 ($35-$50), while the hardware price point is approximately ₹33,000 ($376). DE-CIX's interconnection solutions are crucial for latency-sensitive applications like streaming, video conferencing, and online gaming.

DE-CIX India has multiple 100 GE ports, global platform integration, and a strong presence in major connectivity hubs across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. This infrastructure is capable of meeting the demands of hyperscale performance and resilience.

DE-CIX's vision is to combine satellite, fiber, mobile, and peering to power inclusive, next-generation digital experiences. The company's operation at the forefront of a truly inclusive digital future is a blueprint for what happens when next-gen satellite access meets a trusted, high-performance ground layer.

DE-CIX's global Space-IX program offers interconnection solutions to satellite operators like Starlink, anchoring orbital networks into high-performance terrestrial infrastructure. This program ensures that satellite operators can interconnect locally while delivering globally, achieving the lowest possible latency for end-users in remote geographies.

In conclusion, the ability to rely on globally benchmarked uptime, compliance, and interconnection standards is beneficial for long-term success in addressing the digital divide. DE-CIX India's partnership with Starlink is a testament to this, paving the way for a truly inclusive digital future in India.
