Increased Demand for Post-Covid Emergency Vehicles Advocated by Health Authorities
The Medical Association of Lower Saxony has raised concerns about the care and support provided to those affected by Post-Covid Syndrome, a condition characterised by symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath that persist or newly occur after an acute illness phase of four weeks.
According to the association, five to ten percent of those infected with Long or Post-Covid are affected. Prof. Georg Schomerus from the University Hospital Leipzig stated that a large number of people with Post-Covid Syndrome are "catastrophically underserved."
Currently, there are only two Post-Covid clinics in Lower Saxony, located at the Medical School Hannover and the University Medical Center GΓΆttingen. However, the Medical Association of Lower Saxony has proposed the establishment of more Post-Covid clinics in the state to enable interdisciplinary care of affected people.
Marion Charlotte Renneberg, the deputy president of the Medical Association, stated that a large state like Lower Saxony needs an interdisciplinary network for such care. She emphasized that there is room for improvement in the current state of Post-Covid care in Lower Saxony.
Prof. Schomerus also highlighted the issue of discrimination faced by those affected by Post-Covid Syndrome. He stated that symptoms are often "pushed into the psychosomatic corner." Renneberg agreed, stating that a point of contact for those affected is considered important.
The exact causes of Post-Covid Syndrome are not yet fully understood. Similarly, there are currently no therapies for Post-Covid Syndrome or Long Covid. Renneberg emphasized that those affected by Post-Covid Syndrome need a lot of time and must be listened to.
The Medical Association of Lower Saxony proposed additional Post-Covid clinics at various locations in Lower Saxony, but no specific clinic locations were found in the available search results.
In conclusion, the Medical Association of Lower Saxony has called for improved care and support for those affected by Post-Covid Syndrome, highlighting the need for more Post-Covid clinics and an interdisciplinary network to provide care. The association also emphasized the importance of a point of contact for those affected and the need to address the issue of discrimination faced by those with Post-Covid Syndrome.
