Spain's industrial exports have shown a remarkable increase in the first ten months of the year, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Trade. The total exports stood at 177,616 million euros, marking a 16.6% rise compared to the same period last year.

In the leather and footwear sector, the value of goods sent abroad increased by 10.5% in October, reaching 168 million euros. This sector also managed to reduce its export deficit by 15.9%, to 177 million euros. Moreover, the exports in the sub-sector of clothing in Spain increased by 93.1% in October compared to the same month in the previous year, reaching 776 million euros.

The textile industry also experienced a significant boost, with exports increasing by 53.5% in October compared to the same month in the previous year. The total foreign sales in the textile industry were 1,070 million euros in October, equivalent to 5.5% of total Spanish exports. However, despite this export strength, the trade deficit of textiles increased by 10.7% in the accumulated period.

Clothing led the increase in exports, with a rise of 16.2% in the accumulated period from January to October. Imports in the clothing sector reached 1,519 million euros in October, with a relative increase of 50%. Despite the substantial increase in imports, the growth in exports was higher, leading to a reduction in the clothing trade deficit.

In the case of the textile goods, the entry increased by 50% in October, to 1,828 million euros. The increase in the textile industry exports, in the same accumulated period, was 16.6%. It is worth noting that in all three cases (textile, clothing, leather and footwear), the increases in exports were higher than those registered by the imports of these same groups of products.

In the leather and footwear sector, imports soared by 34.1% in October, to 237.4 million euros. However, the sector still managed to reduce its export deficit by 15.9%. No specific information was provided about the increase in imports or exports in any other sector besides textile and leather and footwear.

The ministerial handover to Juan Manuel Soria took place on the same day the data was released. Soria, who was the Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Trade of Spain from 2011 to 2016, oversaw the implementation of policies aimed at boosting the country's industrial sector. The data's positive results suggest that these efforts are bearing fruit.
