Increase in Parking Infractions in Dubai by 16% during Q2 of 2025
In a bid to address parking challenges in Dubai, Parkin, a leading parking management company, has expanded its use of camera-based systems in multi-level car parks and open lots. The company's strategy is not only punitive but also aimed at improving compliance by expanding payment options and using artificial intelligence to better manage supply and demand.
The increase in parking violations in Dubai, particularly in the second quarter of the year, has been largely attributed to the rollout of new smart inspection vehicles in the city. According to Parkin, these violations include failure to pay parking fees, forgetting to renew tickets, parking on sidewalks, occupying spaces reserved for people of determination, and using spaces without valid permits.
To ease the pressure, Parkin has introduced free residential parking at certain times and free mosque parking during prayer times, both managed by the company. In addition, the company is set to manage an additional 29,600 parking spaces in Dubai.
Parkin's CEO, Karen Parkin, mentioned in reports, emphasises the importance of parking management to the economy, stating that commercial areas depend on parking availability. The company has linked public parking management to the economy and has invested heavily in enforcement technology, with its smart scanning fleet conducting 13 million scans in the first half of the year, as stated by Parkin's chief executive, Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali.
Customers can contest parking violations through Parkin's app, website, or call center. The company's strategy aims to spread a culture of compliance while ensuring technology plays a more regulatory than punitive role.
In a move towards sustainability, Parkin is deploying solar-powered cameras in outdoor and event areas. The smart vehicles used by Parkin also collect data on parking occupancy, signage, and usage patterns, providing valuable insights for improving parking management.
Parkin now offers the option to get fuel on demand, further simplifying the parking experience for customers. With its expanded services and commitment to technology, Parkin continues to shape the future of parking management in Dubai.
