Construction of the new Samarahan-Kuching International Airport access road has been initiated, allowing motorists to traverse the partially completed thoroughfare.

Incomplete works not deterring motorists from using the newly-opened access road to the Samarahan-Kuching International Airport.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak has completed a significant new road project, connecting Bukit Berangan in Samarahan to the southern zone of Kuching International Airport via Stampin. This new access road is now open for use, offering a much-needed relief to motorists traveling between these areas.

The new road passes near Aeroville Mall on Jalan Stutong Baru, and it features a 1km four-lane dual carriageway from the Stutong T-junction to the Stampin T-junction, costing approximately RM112.9 million. The project also includes a 1.7km two-lane carriageway connecting Stampin to the Sungai Tapang T-junction, and a 5.2km two-lane single carriageway extending to the Bukit Berangan T-junction.

The new road connects various points, including Stampin, Sungai Tapang, and Bukit Berangan, and it is served by three bridges that cross the Kuap, Stampin, and Sangkoh rivers. However, it is important to note that the road is not yet fully functional as some works are still unfinished, and barriers are in place at several sections, with infrastructure along the route still incomplete.

To bypass blocked sections near the Bukit Berangan entrance towards Aeroville Mall on Jalan Stutong Baru, vehicles are diverting into the opposite lane. The drive on the new road is generally smooth, but traffic lights along the route have yet to be fully activated. Street lighting has not yet been installed on the new road.

The project also includes upgraded junctions and new internal link roads, as well as a dedicated underpass near the airport. A site visit conducted by The Borneo Post on September 7 revealed these features.

Once fully operational, the new road is expected to ease congestion along Jalan Stutong Baru and Jalan Lapangan Terbang. It will provide a more direct route for motorists, reducing travel time and improving traffic flow in the area. The new road is already serving road users, particularly those traveling between Samarahan and Kuching's southern areas.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak is responsible for the construction and management of the new access road. With this new road in place, commuters can look forward to more convenient and efficient travel between Samarahan and Kuching's southern areas.
