Each stage of production is conducted under stringent quality inspections, bringing standardized, high-quality tempered glass to Indian consumers for the first time in India.
The domestic market for tempered glass in India is estimated to be more than 500 million pieces with a retail value of approximately INR 20,000 crore. With the potential to scale up capacity to support over 4,500 direct job opportunities in phase 2, the facility has the potential to significantly contribute to India's employment and export footprint.
India's electronics industry has seen remarkable growth in recent years. In FY24-25, India became the 2nd largest mobile manufacturing nation in the world and the overall electronics production crossed INR 11 lakh 70 thousand crores. The global market for tempered glass is worth over USD 60 billion, providing ample opportunities for growth and development.
Pankaj Mahindroo, Chairman of India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA), sees immense potential in the tempered glass manufacturing segment to support MSMEs, generate large-scale employment, and contribute significantly to India's export footprint. The new facility, being India's first and one-of-its-kind, equipped with world-class machinery, is a testament to this potential.
Asahi India Glass Ltd (AIS) opened the first and unique tempered glass factory in India equipped with Engineered by Corning technology developed by Corning Incorporated. The inauguration of Optiemus Infracom's new facility is a significant step towards making India self-reliant in the production of high-quality tempered glass, further bolstering India's position in the global electronics industry.
