Inauguration of Acapulco's MARINABUS: Sheinbaum unveils the new public transportation system, overseen by the marina.
A new era of transportation has arrived in the beautiful bay of Acapulco. The MARINABUS, a quick, safe, and sustainable travel option, is set to benefit thousands of locals in their daily commutes and boost tourism in the region.
Built by the Navy Shipyard of Acapulco, the MARINABUS is more than just a vessel. It's a symbol of reconstruction, hope, and the future being built in Acapulco. This 65th vessel provided to the Secretariat of the Navy since 1946, is a testament to the resilience of the city, particularly after the impact of hurricanes Otis and John.
The MARINABUS, a catamaran-type boat, 25 meters long, 7 meters wide, and weighing 110 tons, can transport 90 passengers at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, thanks to a 400-horsepower mechanical diesel propulsion system. Designed to improve urban and tourist mobility in the bay of Acapulco, the MARINABUS is a modern, sustainable, and safe service that arises as a response to traffic and connectivity problems in the area.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the MARINABUS transportation system on August 5, marking a significant milestone in Acapulco's recovery. The mission of the MARINABUS is to provide efficient, eco-friendly, and comfortable transportation that connects key points, making travel in the bay easier and more enjoyable.
The MARINABUS is operated by the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and is part of the program Acapulco Transforms with You. The port in Acapulco is alive, strong, and full of future, thanks to initiatives like the MARINABUS.
The MARINABUS is now accessible through our WhatsApp website, offering updates on the most relevant news, opinion articles, entertainment, trends, and more from your mobile device. A simple trip on the MARINABUS costs 30 pesos for Acapulco residents, 60 pesos for national visitors, and 160 pesos for international tourists.
President Sheinbaum Pardo's visit to Acapulco was met with warm welcomes from the residents. Upon arriving at the event, she was greeted with applause, cheers, and some requests. The federal executive reiterated her support for Acapulco's security, working hand in hand with various government agencies to ensure public safety.
The MARINABUS Acapulco 1 crew was officially sworn in during the event, with the governor Evelyn Salgado, the mayor Abelina Lรณpez, the admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales, secretary of the Navy, and the general Ricardo Trevilla, secretary of Defense, in attendance.
The MARINABUS is not just a step towards a more connected and sustainable Acapulco, but a beacon of hope for the entire country. Acapulco's recovery is seen as a message of hope for Mexico, showing that even in the face of adversity, progress can be made. The MARINABUS, with its modern, sustainable, and safe transportation system, is a testament to this resilience and a symbol of a brighter future for Acapulco and its people.
