In Milan, Giorgio Armani is honored as the 'Royal Giorgio' in a heartfelt tribute.
Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Milan on Saturday, 24th September. The event was attended by a select group of family, friends, and close collaborators, as well as prominent figures from the fashion world and beyond.
Armani's life and business partner, Leo Dell'Orco, his sister, nieces, and nephew, were among those in attendance. Notable attendees also included Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace, Ferrari CEO John Elkann, and composer Ludovico Einaudi.
The funeral was a poignant gathering, with rows of candles in paper bags casting a soft, gentle light, and Einaudi's music playing in the background. A photo of Armani and a thought from the designer were displayed in the background, serving as a poignant reminder of the man who left an indelible mark on the city and the global fashion world.
The mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, made a remembrance for Armani, who passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday. The fashion world mourned the loss of a man of extraordinary elegance, who wrote, "The mark I hope to leave is one of commitment, respect, and attention to people and reality."
Armani continued to work on his latest project, the fashion show celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of his Giorgio Armani brand, right up to his death. The event, set to take place on 28th September at Palazzo Brera in Milan, Italy, will now become the occasion to celebrate the enormous work of "King Giorgio."
Many people arrived at the funeral venue from as early as 7 am, and hundreds attended the ceremony. The funeral chamber will remain open until Sunday.
The fashion show on 28th September at Palazzo Brera will close Milan Fashion Week at the end of September, offering a fitting tribute to a man whose influence on the industry was immeasurable. Messages of condolence arrived from all over the world for Giorgio Armani, who will be buried after a private funeral, details of which have not been released.
