In Herne, Vodafone constructs infrastructure: Initially encountered limitations, subsequently improved mobile network service
Vodafone Modernizes Mobile Station in Herne, Boosting Broadband Capacity
Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communications companies, is set to modernize a local mobile station in Herne's Sodingen district from September 1 to approximately September 16, 2025. This upgrade aims to enhance broadband capacity by installing additional broadband antennas.
The work involves future-proofing the site and building a new mobile data highway. During the construction, mobile traffic will be routed via surrounding stations, and emergency calls to 112 will not be affected. However, temporary restrictions for individual customers cannot be completely avoided during the construction period.
Restrictions for customers range from a weaker network to no reception at all during the disconnection period. The company has made provisions to suspend work daily from 6 p.m. to minimise inconvenience.
Vodafone's commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations. The company's power needs are already covered 100% by renewable energies, and it aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2040.
With over 30 million mobile, over 10 million broadband, and around 12 million TV customers in Germany, Vodafone is a significant player in the country's telecommunications industry. Globally, Vodafone has over 300 million mobile customers and connects over 175 million devices to the Internet of Things.
In Herne, mobile data traffic is growing rapidly, with an annual growth rate of over 30%. Vodafone's 5G network reaches more than 90% of the population in Germany, connecting various entities, including people, machines, families, friends, politics, economics, and society.
For more details about the construction project, a document titled PM_Disconnection_Herne.pdf is available. As one of the largest national subsidiaries of the Vodafone Group, a global telecommunications giant, Vodafone Germany generates an annual turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees.
Despite the temporary inconvenience during the modernization work, Vodafone's efforts to improve its network infrastructure in Germany are expected to provide long-term benefits for its customers and the wider community.
