In Dusseldorf, police are investigating two individuals from Eller and Benrath areas, both lacking valid driving licenses, and suspected of potential alcohol-induced impairment while driving.
A police chase involving an Audi A6 in Benrath on Wednesday (12.2.) ended in a collision, leaving one vehicle needing to be towed. The driver of the Audi, a 20-year-old known to the police, was temporarily arrested and faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The incident began on Börchenstraße when the police attempted to pull over the driver for a traffic violation. However, the driver ignored their signals and sped off towards Baumberg, disregarding traffic rules, running red lights, nearly hitting pedestrians, and performing dangerous overtaking maneuvers at high speed.
The chase ended in Monheim when the driver lost control of his car and crashed into a lamppost, causing an accident with another vehicle, a Peugeot 206. The driver of the Peugeot was unharmed, but the vehicle had to be towed due to the lack of insurance.
The 20-year-old driver admitted to drinking alcohol and not having a driver's license. Further investigation revealed that he did not have a valid driver's license, and the car should not have been used at all due to the lack of insurance.
The 22-year-old passenger in the Audi was also in the car during the incident. He too was found to not be sober. A breathalyzer test showed a result slightly over one promille for the driver, and a drug test at the Wersten police station was positive, so blood samples were taken.
The 43-year-old who was stopped on Karlsruhe Straße early Thursday morning (13.2.) for a near collision was also found to have a blood alcohol level slightly over the legal limit. He faces several charges. After completing police procedures, he was allowed to leave the station in the early morning hours.
The vehicle was seized as evidence, and the men were released. The investigation continues into both incidents.
