In a statement, the Houthi rebels assert that Israel has carried out an air raid in Yemen, resulting in the deaths of their prime minister and several ministers.
The Houthis, a rebel group controlling certain areas of Yemen, have announced the martyrdom of their prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, along with several government officials in an Israeli airstrike on the capital city of Sanaa.
Thursday's air strike targeted a workshop for the Yemeni government, specifically the prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, and several of his fellow ministers. The Israeli Defence Force claimed to have struck a "Houthi terrorist regime military target" in Sanaa, Yemen.
Besides al-Rahawi, the government officials killed in the strike, as announced by the Houthis, included Mujahid Ahmed Abdullah Ali (Minister of Justice and Human Rights), Mu'in Hashim Ahmed al-Muhagari (Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment), Radwan Ali Ali al-Rubai (Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources), Jamal Ahmed Ali Amer (Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants), and Ali Saif Mohammed Hassan (Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water). A total of 12 senior officials were reportedly killed in the strike.
The Houthis have been backed by Iran in their rebellion against the Yemeni government. The latest strikes came after the Houthis launched a missile attack on southern Israel on Wednesday, which was reportedly intercepted. The air strikes are part of Israel's ongoing war against the Houthis.
Despite the losses, the Houthis have stated that they would continue their governmental functions. The statement from the Houthis regarding the air strike and the deaths was issued on Saturday.
The Houthis have been frequently hit by Israel in recent months as a response to their attacks on Western vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This is not the first time the Houthis have suffered heavy casualties in Israeli attacks.
The Yemeni rebel group has, in turn, claimed that Israel was responsible for the air strike. The air strike on Sanaa, resulting in the death of al-Rahawi, occurred on Thursday. This tragic event marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Houthis.
