Dengue Outbreak Continues to Impact Bangladesh
The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh shows no signs of abating, with the latest data revealing a significant number of hospitalisations and deaths.
According to the reports, since the start of this year's dengue season, Bangladesh has recorded 28,202 dengue infections. This is a concerning increase from the 101,214 cases recorded last year. In the past 24 hours alone, four people have lost their lives to the disease, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths this year to 114.
The division-wise breakdown of the current situation paints a grim picture. In Dhaka, the capital city, 100 dengue patients were hospitalised - 32 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 68 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Elsewhere in the country, Chattogram division reported 57 hospitalisations, Mymensingh division recorded three, and Barishal division saw 56 patients admitted. The number of hospitalisations in Dhaka division excluding the capital was 31.
The search for the name of the head of health services in Bangladesh responsible for reporting the dengue outbreak was unsuccessful. However, the ongoing efforts to control the spread of the disease and provide adequate care for those affected are undoubtedly ongoing.
In the face of these numbers, it is clear that the dengue outbreak remains a serious concern for the people of Bangladesh. It is crucial for everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families from this mosquito-borne disease. This includes removing standing water from around the home, using insect repellent, and ensuring that windows and doors have proper screens.
