Improvements at Greeley-Weld County Airport Ramped Up Thanks to Federal Funding

Greeley-Weld County Airport Receives Over $1.2 Million in Federal Grants for Improvement Projects

The Greeley-Weld County Airport in Northern Colorado is set to undergo significant improvements, thanks to over $1.2 million in federal grants awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The airport's ongoing and future improvement projects are positioning it as a key driver of Northern Colorado's economy. According to Kevin Ross, Weld County Commissioner and Chair of the airport authority board, these projects are aimed at strengthening the airport's ability to handle larger planes and higher traffic.

One of the main projects to benefit from the grants is the Echo and Bravo Taxiway Complex. Phase one of this project is expected to wrap up in October, with the new layout allowing for safer traffic flow and better parking for heavier aircraft. The Echo and Bravo Taxiway Complex saw major ramp reconstruction earlier this year, with an additional $850,000 from the FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant and a supplementary $150,000 from the AIP grant to support the completed ramp reconstruction project.

Weld County and the City of Greeley each committed $5 million towards airport improvements in a previous intergovernmental agreement. The grants will offset a portion of the construction and design costs, with future plans for the airport including building an air traffic control facility and strengthening runways and taxiways.

The grants will also support ongoing and future improvement projects, such as upgrading electrical systems, which is part of the airport's long-term plans. Kevin Ross expressed his excitement about the airport's future, stating that these improvements will continue to position the Greeley-Weld County Airport as a vital hub for the region.
