Illegally Imported Puppies Found Upon Arrival at HZA-HN Border
In a recent incident, a van with Moldovan license plates was inspected by customs patrol on the A 81 at Stuttgart interchange. The investigation, led by the Main Customs Office Heilbronn, uncovered a shocking discovery – a Toy Poodle puppy hidden between the driver’s and passenger’s seats under a blanket.
The puppy, just eight weeks old, was found to be in a poor state of health. It was severely dehydrated and trembling, leading to a call to the responsible veterinary office. The puppy did not have a rabies vaccination, health certificate, or met the age requirements for travel, raising concerns about its welfare.
The incident involved a number of organisations, including customs officers, a veterinary office, an animal rescue service, and the Boeblingen district animal shelter. The animal rescue service Schönbuch took the young dog to the Boeblingen district animal shelter.
The veterinary office ordered the puppy to be seized, and the driver was suspected of illegal puppy trafficking. The driver initially claimed the puppy was a gift for his cousin, but this was met with suspicion. A criminal investigation was initiated against the driver for smuggling an animal contrary to § 13 (1) of the Animal Health Act.
The driver waived their right to reclaim the dog after the ordered quarantine in November. After the necessary quarantine period, the puppy is to be made available for adoption. The puppy’s adoption will occur after the necessary quarantine period, and it will be available for a loving home.
Regrettably, there are no search results indicating the identity of a perpetrator who illegally imported a Toy Poodle twin via the Hauptzollamt Heilbronn in Germany. The criminal investigation against the driver was initiated on the spot, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following animal welfare regulations and the laws governing the transportation of animals. It is crucial that we protect the welfare of all animals, especially young and vulnerable ones like this puppy.
