Identifying Vocational Skills through MYSKILLS Assessment
In a significant move to facilitate targeted placement in employment and training, MYSKILLS has introduced the "Employment in Transition" project. This new initiative, part of the MYSKILLS framework, aims to assess competencies in 30 German vocational training professions.
The "Employment in Transition" project shares the same goal as MYSKILLS: to provide a tool for vocational training and skills assessment. It focuses on vocational training and skills assessment, offering competency tests that are designed to assess competencies regardless of how they were acquired.
The tests, conducted on a computer, cover 5 to 8 action fields for each profession, similar to the regular MYSKILLS tests. They take approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete. The result indicates the level of competency for each action field of a profession, categorised as assistant, experienced worker, or expert.
One of the key features of the "Employment in Transition" project is its inclusivity. It assesses which parts of a profession participants already master, making it accessible to individuals from various backgrounds. The tests are available in 12 languages, including German, English, and several others, mirroring the language diversity of MYSKILLS.
The "Employment in Transition" project is associated with MYSKILLS, and it's not the first time MYSKILLS has made headlines. The project was first piloted in the Bern canton, and its concept will be introduced in Eastern Switzerland on September 18, 2025, with the first "My Skills Experience Day" held in the region. This event offers 5th and 6th-grade students hands-on opportunities to explore various professions.
In summary, the "Employment in Transition" project is an extension of MYSKILLS' mission to provide comprehensive vocational training and skills assessment. By offering competency tests for German vocational training professions, it aims to facilitate targeted placement in employment and/or training, making it easier for individuals to transition into their desired careers.
