Iconic musician Konstantin Wecker struggling with piano due to mental health crisis.
In an open and candid interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung," celebrated musician and singer-songwriter Konstantin Wecker has shared insights about his personal struggles with addiction, health issues, and his upcoming book.
At 78 years old, Wecker has been a prominent figure in the German music scene for decades. However, his latest revelations paint a different picture, one that delves into the darker aspects of his life.
Wecker's new book, "Der Liebe zuliebe," set to be released on September 1st, deals with his battles against addiction, depression, melancholy, alcoholism, and drug intoxication. The book, published by the bene! imprint of the Droemer Knaur publishing group, promises to be a raw and honest account of his experiences.
Wecker's struggles with addiction reached a turning point in 2021, as he discussed in an interview with "Zeit Verbrechen" magazine. He revealed that an earlier imprisonment for cocaine possession served as a "blessing" for him, offering a chance to escape his addiction.
However, Wecker's health has been affected by his past choices. His left hand has been experiencing gradual breakdowns, and he has damage to several nerves, affecting his ability to play the piano. Despite numerous visits to specialists, there is no exact diagnosis for his condition, and it is unlikely to improve.
Wecker can now only play simple melodies, like a child or a beginner. This has been a significant blow to an artist whose career has been built on his musical prowess.
In the book, Wecker discusses a decades-long search and a turning point at the abyss. He also spoke about wishing for a heart attack just to be admitted to a clinic, acknowledging he couldn't get out of his misery on his own.
Despite these challenges, Wecker's resilience shines through. His book promises to be a powerful testament to his journey, offering hope and inspiration to those who may be facing similar battles.
