A fatal shooting in Minneapolis has sparked widespread controversy after ICE agents killed Renee Nicole Good on 7 January 2026. The incident led to legal action from Minnesota and the Twin Cities, with debates intensifying over police transparency and the use of force. Meanwhile, public figures like Zara Larsson have publicly condemned ICE, escalating calls for accountability.

The confrontation began when ICE agents attempted to detain Good in Minneapolis. Vice President JD Vance later shared police footage online, framing the incident as self-defence after Good allegedly used her car as a weapon. The Trump administration labelled the event domestic terrorism, fuelling accusations of 'copaganda' in the weeks that followed.

In response, 156 lawmakers sent a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, demanding answers. They questioned the agents' conduct and pushed for reforms within the agency. Meanwhile, singer Zara Larsson took to social media to criticise ICE, calling their behaviour rooted in 'toxic masculinity, low IQ, and a lack of parental love.'

Larsson's comments extended beyond the shooting itself. She claimed billionaire leaders profit from societal divisions caused by ICE's actions. The pop star also suggested that teaching boys compassion and empathy could reshape law enforcement culture. Her remarks included a provocative statement: she would rather host a crack smoker on her sofa than an ICE agent.

Her critique aligned with other left-leaning celebrities and politicians who have denounced the shooting. Larsson's post also voiced broader support for immigrants, trans people, socialism, and even criminals, framing her stance as part of a wider social justice movement.

The shooting of Renee Nicole Good remains a flashpoint in debates over immigration enforcement and police accountability. Legal challenges from Minnesota and public condemnations from figures like Larsson have kept pressure on federal agencies. The incident continues to highlight divisions over law enforcement practices and their impact on marginalised communities.
