Sir Ian McKellen, the esteemed British actor known for his roles in "Lord of the Rings" and "X-Men," is making a comeback to the silver screen with his latest film, "The Christophers." Despite a recent health scare and advice from his doctors to avoid travel, McKellen has recorded a video message for the audience at the Princess of Wales Theatre, where the film is premiering at this year's Toronto Film Festival.

In "The Christophers," McKellen plays Julian Sklar, a famous painter, opposite Michaela Coel, James Corden, and Jessica Gunning. The plot revolves around Lori (played by Coel), a character who is a restorer and food truck vendor. Lori receives a risky offer to complete unfinished works of Julian Sklar in exchange for a share of the profits.

The film does not mention any health issues for Sir McKellen, but in June 2024, he was hospitalized for three days after falling from the stage during a performance of "King Lear." McKellen described the stage fall as "terrible" and said he has been plagued by physical consequences. Since then, he has been experiencing shoulder pain and has been afraid to leave the house due to fear of being bumped into.

Despite his health concerns, McKellen has not revealed his current health status in relation to "The Christophers." He has also not revealed any details about his potential return to the role of Gandalf in "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," set to release in 2027.

One thing is certain, however: Sir Ian McKellen has no plans to retire from acting. Despite the challenges he has faced, he continues to push forward, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his craft.

Unfortunately, due to his health concerns, Sir Ian McKellen will not be in attendance at the Toronto Film Festival. Fans will have to enjoy his performance on the big screen instead. "The Christophers" is not directed by Steven Soderbergh, but it is a film not to be missed for fans of McKellen and the talented cast.
