If you were to describe the sensation of elation in a dictionary, a Cologne player would depict it as such: Forward Damion Downs scores a goal for Cologne at 5:24 pm, causing Müngersdorf to turn upside down.

Complete strangers are tossing their cups about, weeping in each other's arms, and crossing themselves. Meanwhile, I'm silent, staring at my colleague Uli Bauer in awe, and shaking my head.

No, it's not Timo Schultz's motivational speech that sparked the astonishing comeback. Schultz is a kind-hearted man. He's the type you'd want to grab a beer or tea with. Not a ruthless coach like his predecessor, Steffen Baumgart. However, Schultz's changes in the second half, notably the entry of goalscorer Downs, are significant.

But, this triumph is primarily for the fans who have been passionately supporting their team for weeks despite the possibility of relegation.

They were compensated for their support this afternoon. Their cheers for the goal are still echoing in my mind. Chills involved too ...
